HCS examination has just finished. Now it is the high time for the planning for admission to the university. This phase of admission can be compared with a word- ‘war’! The students of our country have to face huge stress during admission test or admission war. A student has to combat with expectation pressure, required time, self-interest, setting a goal, examination preparation, etc. All of these are not easy at all. But the winner will enjoy the situation and conquer it. The time for admission test after HSC is about 3 months. Here are some pieces of advice for the students about how to use the time to become a winner:
1. Fix your goal
Students of science background generally desire to study at the Medical College or Engineering University. But in reality, most of the students meet up with the interesting subjects like BBA, Law, Social Science, Economics, Literature, History, International Relations. So it is necessary to change the attitude. Regardless of social or family
pressures, first decide your subject of interest. Then find out those universities where you can have the opportunity to study your desired subject. Then create your dream list. In this case, it is necessary to remember that determining the goal of your life by others, may not be wise. Believe in yourself and your choice.
2. The Preparation
Many students feel disaster at the beginning of admission test preparation. Some read the first few chapters very attentively whereas the chapters of the last portion become untouched. So the chapters that have not been read well in college life will be given the most attention now. Your time is very limited so there may not be a chance to read the same thing over and over again. If any part of the lesson is dropped, then mark it in the red colour. You can read those seriously before the examinations. Your board textbooks will be the biggest help for admission tests. In this case, you can get the original information by reading an author’s books. It is better not to hurt your shoulder with thousands of guides found in the market.
3. Run before time
Most of the admission tests are done in multiple choice questions. In that case, the time for each question-answer is less than one minute. So we have to beat the time. A major part of preparing for the admission test is to practice the questions in the past years. Thus you can have your mental preparation to face the exam. These questions available in guidebooks and many websites will provide you not only the questions but also free model tests. You can sign up on the websites and take a test. At the end of each quiz, how much time you took and how many numbers you get, will be informed. There will be correct answers to the wrong questions. If you take the test repeatedly, your number will be increasing day by day and required time will be reduced. Then you will be confident enough to believe that ‘I am capable”. This belief is the biggest tool in the admission process.
4. Do not give up:
Like other parts of life, admission tests will also be a win-lose situation. You can fail by trying all the ways. But remember, the key to success is to overcome defeat and retry. If you do not get a chance at your first preferred university for any reason, then you will have to struggle to get the second choice without losing time. Do not give up. Don’t get frustrated to know about the good preparation of your friends. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. The wounded fighter who knows how to fight, the victory might be written for him.
5. Health is the root of all happiness
A lot of good students are found to be terribly ill during the admission test. As a result, they cannot be admitted to their preferences. So to be healthy, take a proper care. Be careful about food and water. Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep every day is very necessary for your admission.
6. Information is power:
You may be tempted to make preparations with a lot of hard work. But if you make any mistake about using a calculator, marks distribution accordingly to questions, writing set code on the answer sheet in the examination hall, your dreams could be broken. So you have to know each and everything about the examination procedure. Time marks distribution and admission processes is somewhat different from university to university. Keep all the information from the concerned university website right now. So, in this era of technology, you must keep yourself informed about admission-related information all the time.
7. No suggestion
In our board exams, students can pass through a suggestion of important questions. But the biggest difference in the admission test is that there is no suggestion for this test. The entire syllabus can come in the admission test question. So take the textbook and read it from the beginning to the end without leaving any chapter. While reading difficult topics, keep notes in the form of a list. So there is a big no for suggestion oriented reading.
8. Self Help is the Best Help
As the first step in preparing admission in our country, we spent thousands of taka for different types of commercial coaching centre. Those students get frustrated in no time and stay at home without taking effort. Because the hassle of every day’s coaching class attendance, interrupt the time of self-reading for the admission test. Always remember that self-help is the best help. The preparation you take by your own is the only useful thing for you.
9. Control your Nerve Pressure
The aim of our life is decided on the precious one hour of the admission test. So the pressure on the nerve will be tremendous. Many good students become a victim of the nerve pressure. So you are in need of a control on your nerve which is a vital part of your preparation. It is said the practice creates self-confidence. If you practice similar test like admission at home every day, it will provide a good idea about the pressure of the examination hall. Thus
you can beat the exam fear and be Mr Cool in the exam hall. Meditation and prayer can also help you to keep a hold on own nerve.
10. Advice for the Parents
Parents are the most vital support for a student during the admission test. So help the student with your mental support. Try to establish his/her will about setting the goal of their life. Their preparation will be most effective if you provide him/her the moral strength. Don’t blame them if they fail to prove themselves whether encourage them for the next test. Don’t make an enquiry about their failure. Your love and affection is the true arms for them to overcome it and to build confidence. The success will come through the self-confidence. Give him space and think of events to keep him cheerful.
Last of all
Admission test is just competitive but not impossible. If you regularly take preparation, your admission in the desired institution will be a reality. But prepare for a hard time if you can’t get admission in your preferred one. Because there are many successful persons who can’t be admitted to their desired subject. But they enjoy their achieved subjects and thus become prosperous. So be confident and conquer. May Allah help you by all means.
